Amazon.com Review Foster a lifelong love for reading at an early age with the LeapFrog Tag Junior Reading system. This unique reading system encourages toddlers to engage with books through music, appealing sound effects, and open-ended questions. Designed for toddlers ages two through four, the LeapFrog Tag Junior Reading system uses the touch technology to allow toddlers to interact and explore the pages of the book with a touch of the Tag Junior Book Pal. Each Tag Junior Activity book teaches a different age-appropriate skill such as sharing, counting numbers, or learning the alphabet. The Tag Junior Reading system includes one board book, and the Tag Junior Book Pal can hold audio for up to five books. | Tag Junior Book Pal (Purple) Ages: 2 to 4 years

The reading system can store up to five books, which are all available for download from the LeapFrog web site. (shown in green) View larger. | Fun, Easy-to-hold Design The LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal's quirky shape and animal-like appearance attracts a toddler's attention. The large knob design makes it easy for toddlers to hold it in their tiny hands. With its durable exterior, the Book Pal can withstand a toddler's rambunctious use over many years and is easy to clean with a damp cloth. The Book Pal's optical reader is cleverly tucked into the bottom portion so that fingers cannot touch the sensor. And it's simple to dust using a cotton swab. The batteries and USB port are safely stored behind a compartment that closes securely with a screw. An additional safety feature is the battery guard strap that firmly holds the batteries in place. A volume control button with low or high settings is located above the speakers on the front side of the Book Pal, while a conveniently placed on/off button is on the side. The speakers provide good, clear sound with little distortion. As a battery-saving feature, the Book Pal will turn off automatically after a period of inactivity. The Tag Junior Reading system comes with one Activity Storybook. Its colorful illustrations and interesting narrative will appeal to young children while the thick, durable board book construction is made to last. Advice for parents: keep food and beverages away from Tag Junior Book Pal as any spills could cause it to malfunction. Exploration with Every Touch The Tag Junior Reading System can engage toddlers for hours. By simply touching the Book Pal to a Tag Junior Book, children hear one of 130 responses or 24 book-based play activities. The responses can be songs, interesting sound effects, open-ended questions, amusing sentences, or reading aloud the text. Children can spend hours playing and exploring the different responses on every corner of the book. In many cases, they'll hear different responses when they touches the same spot in a book. The variety and randomness of the responses will keep their interest and initiate exploring the book over and over again. Store up to Five Books It's easy to use the LeapFrog Connect application that allows you to download audio to the Tag Junior Book Pal by connecting the USB cable (included) to a computer. Each book is centered on an important skill for toddlers to learn. Parents can print activity sheets, such as coloring pages, from the LeapFrog Connect site for additional activities and learning. You can also personalize the Tag Junior Reading System with your child's name so the Book Pal will incorporate his/her name into its greeting and farewell phrases. One drawback: in order to download the Book Pal's audio feature, you will need a computer that has 256MB of RAM and 300MB of free disk space. However, the download process is straightforward and the additional resources on the LeapFrog connect site are well worth it. What's in the Box One LeapFrog Junior Book Pal, one Leap Frog Tag Junior book, Instruction book, USB cable.
Product Description A love of books starts long before children can read - and its benefits can last a lifetime. Using the same amazing touch technology as the Tag reading system, the Tag junior book pal is designed to encourage toddlers' natural desire to explore, while introducing preschool skills through playful book-based activities.

Absolutely love it! I RECOMMEND!! February 14, 2010 Tia Augustine I bought this for my daughter's 2nd birthday, she opened it last night and hasn't put it down. I absolutely love the fact that it says her name when she turns it on and off, also that you can have more than one book on it at a time because she keeps going between them. It's very durable for a toddler, sturdy build. The fact that you have to take the back off to plug it into the computer is kind of a nuisance, but it's super easy, I just use a butter knife; it's also very smart because we all know that kids get things dirty and if it were exposed it probably wouldn't work after while. I wish they would have had the tag pals out sooner and I would have bought them for her as an infant. I would completely recommend this to others, great learning tool for toddlers!!!!
Great product for toddlers who love Books! February 9, 2010 C. M. Thomas (Pittsburgh,PA) My toddler loves her books. This lets her explore the Tag Jr books as well as listen to the stories. Its very easy for her to hold.
Leapfrog Tag Junior Book Pal February 7, 2010 Lorna L. Salzano (Michigan) I bought this toy for my granddaughter for Christmas at Amazon after shopping at MANY stores. I found the price of the toy even including shipping was less than at any other store. It arrived in mere days and my granddaughter has had many hours of playing with this toy all ready.
good in theory January 30, 2010 MO (Seattle) We got this toy as a "new trip toy" for our 2 year old daughter. It seemed like a great toy in theory. Encourage a love for reading and books in a toy that is compact and easy to take along... She played with it a few times on the trip, but that was about it. She likes books in general, but likes it even more when she sits in my lap so I can read to her. I know it is geared toward toddlers, but maybe it is too soon to spark a real interest in this toy, or maybe she just knows she can usually get me to read to her instead. Had I known it was not going to be a big hit, I probably would have passed on this toy. But every child is different and you don't know until you try.
It's less than a month old.. January 18, 2010 Jennifer Parker (Fernley, NV) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My 2.5 year old daughter has had the Leap Junior for less than a month (we got it after Christmas because she kept swiping her big sisters Tag Pen) and it was dead today when we were getting packed up for a day trip. It's not the batteries. I just put a brand new pair of Duracell's into it. Still no dice. I had my boyfriend look at it and see if he could figure it out. Nothing.
There's no reason why it shouldn't work. It's not seen any more abuse from my daughter than would be expected. She smacks it down onto the books harder than she likely should, and it's been tossed a few times in the living room. This toy was designed for toddlers and preschoolers so I would expect it to handle it.
I of course failed to keep the receipt, so we'll have to see what LeapFrog customer service has to say in the morning (their CS is M-F EST business hours). If nothing can be done I think I will get my daughter the regular Tag Pen as I had planned on to begin with since the board books work with the Tag Pen.
As for the Tag Junior as a toy my daughter is thrilled with it (hence my urgency to fix it). Her Ki-Lan and Dora book have seen hours of face time in the short time we've had it. I LOVE how I can see what pages she's been preferring, and how long she's spent on each book. Though I think don't that it's as challenging as my daughter needs. It's still decent since it keeps her entertained when needed and can be easily taken along in the car.
